My name is Nicole Verdin and I am a development intern with Marathon Kids, a nonprofit that utilizes running as a vehicle to show kids they can achieve more than they ever thought possible and put them on the path to healthier lives. Currently, Marathon Kids serves 30,000 kids in Austin and is committed to serving not only our youth, but our community as a whole. In reaching out to your organization, we are hoping to spread our message to families that may be looking for new ideas this summer!
This year is our 25th anniversary and as part of our celebration, we have created two free programs that parents are able to use at home:
Walk + Talk: Get active as a family! Walk a mile with your child and talk about a new topic each day. We provide a special mileage log to track the distance you walk, along with 26 conversation starter cards—one for each mile. After a month or so of family walks, you’ll have walked the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles), and have gotten to know your child a little better along the way.
Run + Read: Keep both your body and brain active by running or walking 26.2 miles, and reading 26 books. Marathon Kids and Education Connection have teamed up to bring kids a fun summer challenge, Run and Read! To get started, just download a free Run and Read log, put it on the fridge and get going. Before you know it, you’ll have run—and read—a marathon!
We at Marathon Kids hope that our programming can provide your community with a unique opportunity to stay active during the upcoming months. If you have any additional questions about Marathon Kids, Walk + Talk or Run and Read, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to hear from you soon. Enjoy your evening!
